Waldorf University men and women’s soccer teams are preparing to host their annual Purple and White Alumni game on April 16 at Bolstorff Field.

This will be the third year for the Women’s Soccer Team Alumni game, and the first year for the Men’s Soccer Team. Women’s Head Coach Casey Curoe is looking forward to seeing both teams join together.

“It’s been a big fundraiser for Alumni,” said Curoe. “They come back to the program because they had a great four years while playing soccer. Plus, the men and women’s teams have had good relationships. I am very excited to see the men’s team come back.”

Every year, the soccer event is alumni vs. the current players on Waldorf’s soccer teams, which gives the returners game-like experiences they had in the previous fall season. Curoe said she is rooting for the youngsters.

“We have a small group of returners coming back for next season, so I’ll definitely will be rooting for them,” Curoe said. “But the best part is coaches get to be a part of the game, so this is going to be a fun time on the 16.”

Waldorf Media Specialist and alumni Carlos Ruiz is eager to be back on the soccer field since graduating in 2014.

“I’m very excited. I haven’t played college ball in nearly two years and now that I get the opportunity to play again, makes me excited. It’s something that I miss very much and I can’t wait,” says Ruiz.

Around 15 players from the women’s team will be returning for the big event. While the men are still in counting, Ruiz cannot wait to be reunited with many of his former teammates.

“I would say that the people I want to see are the people that I played with specifically during my four years,”
said Ruiz, “which is a lot of players, but I would love to see any one of them.”

“I’m super excited to play with the alumni,” said Jennifer Geil, 2015 graduate. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m excited to see everyone. I haven’t seen some of the girls in so long. I can’t wait to see them all.”

Waldorf’s men will kick off their alumni game at 3 p.m., followed by a barbecue. The Warrior women begin their game at 5 p.m.
