The Office is funny, heart-warming and sad all in one

The Office is funny, heart-warming and sad all in one

By: Jaci Olson

Everyone has favorite TV shows. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I do have my favorites that I will watch over and over. The good thing is most of them are on Netflix. Here are my favorite TV shows in order of less favorite to most favorite.

10. One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill was one of the very first shows I binge-watched on Netflix. I first saw part of an episode on TV, and I knew I had to watch the show. My sister and I watched every single episode together. All nine seasons of One Tree Hill on Netflix. It was well worth 7,667 minutes of my life. You can relate to each of the characters in their own ways. This show got me and every girl through high school and is always a favorite.

9. That ’70s Show

That 70s Show is a classic. Everyone has seen it at some point. It is about a group of friends from Point Place, Wisconsin. From the opening song, showing members of the cast driving in Eric’s car singing the theme song, to every classic Kelso moment, That 70s Show is great. It’s hilarious and just makes you wish you were a part of the gang during the ’70s.

8. 24

24 is such an action-packed serial drama. It focuses on the efforts of the fictional Counter Terrorist Unit to protect America from terrorism plots. Each season contains 24 episodes with each episode covering 24 hours of Jack Bauer’s life using real time narration. Most episodes show Bauer racing against the clock to save lives and eliminate terrorists while simultaneously showing the actions of the terrorists using split screens. This show is fast-paced, and you really have to pay attention. It will draw you in and keep you watching each season.

7. New Girl

New Girl focuses on the quirky life of Jess. She moves in with three guys and changes their lives for the better. Jess is so funny and her awkward life is easy for me to relate to. I love her personality, and her encounters with her roommates and friends are so funny. The relationships between the characters enhances the show. Also, the chemistry they all have is very good. Their loft is also amazing, and I want to live there.

6. The Following

The Following is a drama series that follows FBI agent Ryan Hardy and his task to find and eliminate the works of serial killers and cult members. Kevin Bacon played Hardy, so obviously that in itself is a reason to love the show. Who doesn’t love Kevin Bacon? Each season brought a new horror, and I loved that they brought in new characters to freshen up each season. Sadly, FOX cancelled The Following after just three seasons. Even though it no longer is on TV, it is on Netflix, and I will always love The Following.

5. Friends

Friends is a classic that anyone can love. You instantly get drawn into the world of six twenty-something friends and their lives.  Friends was extremely popular and the fifth most watched series finale in television history. Their lives become so important to us, and we love to watch them. We become attached to their adventures and careers. I love each of the characters like they were my own friend, and this show was well written. The show will make you laugh and then cry.

4. Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is a TV show that every girl should watch, maybe with her mom or sister. It revolves around Lorelei Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. It is about their life in their small town of Stars Hollow. The girls go through everything from heartbreak to family drama. The characters are strong and many people love it, because they can look up to the Gilmore Girls. Everyone knows they can always return to Luke’s Diner for some coffee. Netflix is also streaming the Gilmore Girls Revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Nov. 25, 2016. I personally can’t wait for all of our favorite characters to return to Stars Hollow.

3. The Office

My brother and sister got me hooked on The Office. I had watched a few random episodes with them, and I honestly didn’t think I would like it at all. I thought Michael was too stupid, and I couldn’t stand him. I’ll admit, the first season is pretty tough to watch. But, once you get past that, it is such a good show. It is funny, heart-warming and sad all in one. These office workers become like family.

2. Lost

Lost is a great TV show that leaves you wanting more. It is one of those shows that confuses you and sometimes doesn’t make any sense, but trust me, it is worth it. It follows the survivors of a commercial passenger flight. Episodes are told in a lot of flashbacks and looks into the future. Lost keeps you guessing and that is what I love about the show. You never know what will happen next, but it also ties in humor and wit.

1. Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation, also known as Parks and Rec., is my favorite shows currently. I loved every minute of it. It is funny and so crazy you can’t help but love it. Amy Poehler played Leslie Knope, who is a crazy, lovable character. Everyone, including viewers of the show, will fall in love with her. There are all kinds of twists and turns throughout the show, and you grow to love each of the characters. This show is very quotable, and I can relate to the characters. The way the actors respond to each other is great. Parks and Rec. is funny, lovable and a great show.

Now you know my top 10 favorite TV shows. Other favorites include: Full House, Seinfeld, 30 Rock and Scrubs. I would recommend going to Netflix now to start watching.
