On August 29, 2016, sophomore Business Administration major Asmita KC was nominated and voted by Cooley Scholarship girls to be the first president of the Chantell Cooley Women Leadership Program. The Chantell Cooley Leadership Scholarship for Women provides financial assistance to young women seeking a residential degree at Waldorf University. These scholarships are awarded to women based on their leadership potential and membership to specific, co-curricular campus organizations.

“I always like to initiate things and be a part of an organization. Other than that, I have been more a leader than a follower all my life, and I always seek to do that. This motivates me to put my leadership, my dedication and my passion into this program,” KC said.

Cooley Girls have a weekly meeting every Friday, where they have interactive group discussion using lesson books published by Chantell Cooley. They also organize other fun activities, such as inviting speakers, doing volunteer work and having self-evaluation sessions. All activities aim to explore more into women leadership roles.

“My purpose of being the president of the Chantell Cooley Women Leadership Program is to put the girls upfront and make them visible to the whole college by assisting them to find their potential and play an active role in the society. The Chantell Cooley Women Leadership Program would also like to provide information about financial management, sexual or racial discrimination, gender inequality and prejudice in the workplace for the Cooley Girls to see the bigger picture of life and how to overcome this,” KC said. Being the president, KC has faced the challenge of helping pioneer a new program and holding the story basis to keep it running in the future.

“I see that she has strong visions for the girls,” Area Coordinator and First-Year Experience Coordinator Sharese Hall said. “The girls are already at a certain level, and she wants to take them ten levels above that – to be the best version of themselves.”
