Around 447 community members, Waldorf students, and faculty members came together to participate in the annual Stop Hunger, Start Hope event held in the Waldorf College Atrium. The teams exceeded the original goal of packaging 18,000 mac and cheese and rice and vegetable meals by creating 71,722 meal packages. Stop Hunger Start Hope is an empowering organization through Outreach that raises awareness of needy individuals throughout the world.

The Atrium is turned into an assembly line with long tables. On each side of the table workers are stationed who either portion out rice, vegetables, add vitamins, or vacuum seal and box the meals. Throughout the day the teams are rotated according to when individuals are available to volunteer.

The macaroni and cheese meals are distributed in our area to food pantries, churches, and schools. The rice and vegetable meals are shipped abroad.

Steve Smith said, “We could have made more meals, but we ran out of vitamin packs for the rice and vegetable meals.”

Along with the food packaging the Waldorf College Amnesty International Group, Honors, and Alpha Chi hosted a bake sale. The bake sale raised $277. There was an additional $429 worth of donations by community members. All of that money goes towards funding this event next year.
