Waldorf’s Career Center moved to the second floor of the Luise V. Hanson Library, and on Jan. 27, 2020, held an Open House to introduce its new director.

Kathy Rollefson, the new Director of Career Planning, said, “Turnout was good. I felt I was able to meet a few students and answer any questions they had at that time.”

Sheryl Barbour, the Career Center Coordinator, said, “I absolutely love our new location and feel that it will be more beneficial to students.”

“Our new location makes sense to be near the Writing Center and it would make for a great partnership,” Barbour added.

In the past, the Career Center has been assisting at least 10 students weekly by exploring academic majors and careers, updating resumes and cover letters, preparing interviews, and searching for jobs and internships.

Gülnaza Saburhojayeva, a senior in Business major, who has sought for assistance from the Career Center, attended the Open House.

“I like it because it is in the library,” Saburhojayeva said. “It is in the hub of where students go to study and I think it is a great location for the service they perform. Students can just walk in when they feel the need for assistance.”

Rollefson hopes the new location will increase visibility and provide easy access for students.

Previously employed as an Executive Director of Forest City’s Chamber of Commerce, Rollefson is seeking to learn and see how the Career Center can minimize inefficiency and enhance the things that are going well.

Having worked with the business community in the past, she is also hoping to keep those relationships to support career development for Waldorf’s students.

“My hope is for them to think of Waldorf first, think of the students with the emphasis they have on their respective degrees (for career opportunity),” said Rollefson.

The Career Center is open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. for students to drop in for assistance and regularly hosts workshops, events and trips for career opportunities and development.

Events planned to be organized during this Spring 2020 are as below:

– Camp Fair for summer jobs and internships: Wednesday, February 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Atrium.

– Annual Spring Career & Internship Fair: Wednesday, March 18, in the Atrium from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
