The Waldorf University football team is under new leadership.

Former defensive coach, Will Finley will be taking over as the new Waldorf head football coach. In early March Josh Litrell stepped down to accept a new position as a high school head coach in Texas.

The Waldorf football team finished with a (7-3) record last year, losing to Dickenson state in the conference finals to make the playoffs. The Waldorf football team finished with one of the top defenses in NAIA football.

This will be Coach Finely’s second year with the program and his first as a head coach. His last coaching job was at Benedictine college (another NAIA program) in Kansas where he coached three seasons.

After Coach Finley’s playing days, he spent a season on the coaching staff at Benedictine before making the transition to Waldorf University. Coach Josh Littrell brought Finley in as a defensive coordinator.

Coach Littrell said “there was no better man for this job, we wanted to keep things in-house and keep the kids together, and we have a special group. Coach Finely will have this thing right where it left off.”

The Warriors are still putting the pieces together after losing three coaches from last year with a few changes to the offensive side of the ball.

The new head coach has been on a quest to find the next offensive coordinator. Former All-American Hilton Joseph has been a name thrown around, as coming back to be a position coach either for the Quarterbacks or wide Receivers.

There have been no hires yet but when speaking with Coach Finley he said they were very close to getting the right guy for the job.

The future of the Waldorf football team looks to be in good hands for years to come under the new head coach, Will Finley.
