Warriors battled Vikings
By Alex Cabral
On Saturday Sept. 19, the Waldorf Warriors took on the Valley City Vikings. Valley City college is last years defending conference champions in the North Star conference. This weekends game ended in a loss for the Warriors with a score of 35- 13.
The game was a lot closer than the score shows as the Warriors finished the game with a total offense of 316 yards. This game was a fight until the end as the offensive line pushed all the way down the field multiple times and tired the Vikings defense out. Running back Julian Ampaw rushed for a total of 138 rushing yards.
The Warrior offense was in the red zone multiple times and only came out with 13 points. Quarterback Isaac said, “Through lack of execution we could not find the endzone as much as we wanted. We had missed many red zone opportunities and we need to take advantage of all the opportunities that we get from here on out. Now we need to turn the page and get ready for next week”.
The defense for Waldorf gave up 356 yards of offense in which most scores were only on big plays. The defense held the Vikings to only 21 points. In any situation the game should be won if a defense only gives up 21 points. Defensive back Preston Landon says, “we should have won that game. We had the talent to turn the game around, but we didn’t execute or take advantage of our opportunities. Hopefully, this week will benefit us in the long run”. The offense gave up seven points when Quarterback threw a interception which was returned for a touchdown. Meanwhile the kickoff team gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown that contributed to the Vikings points.
The Warriors are now 1-1 in conference as they try to keep the hope of winning the first conference championship in the history of the school. If the Warriors win the rest of the season and someone beats Valley City college this goal is achievable. Waldorf prepares to play Buena Vista University on Saturday Sept. 26, 2015 at Buena Vista.
