By Waldorf Sports Information Director
FOREST CITY – Waldorf University women’s soccer player Brittney Thornton was named the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday following last week’s record-setting performance.
Thornton delivered five goals to record 10 total points while leading the Warriors (3-7) to a 5-0 victory over the University of Saint Mary (1-3-1) last Friday at Leavenworth, Kansas. The senior forward from Denver established single-match school records for both goals and points scored while leading Waldorf to its second straight shutout.
In four seasons, Thornton has amassed 78 points and 36 goals, topping Waldorf’s career record books in both statistical categories. Thornton currently has 23 points on the year and ranks second among the school’s single-season records, only trailing her own record from the 2013 season by two points. With 11 goals this season, Thornton is closing in on her 12-goal season from 2013 and Heather Collins’ single-season school record of 15 goals in 2006. Thornton currently leads the NSAA in goals and points this season.
The Warriors return action on Oct. 8 when they begin NSAA play, hosting Presentation College (5-2-1) at 5 p.m.
