On Saturday, September 3, the Waldorf cheerleading team hosted a children’s clinic. It involved teaching around 30 girls a cheer and dance routine, and then performing it at the halftime show of the home football game. The clinic had girls from almost every age group: from as young as three to a sophomore in high school. For some of the girls, it was a dream come true to be cheering on the turf with the Waldorf University cheer team.

“Having such a diverse age group did make keeping the girls entertained a little difficult. The younger girls just wanted to dance, whereas the older girls wanted to do more structured activities.” said co-captain Tyra Brown. Brown and sophomore Victoria Carra put a lot of time into this clinic, from cutting the music to choreographing the routine. Both girls were very determined to make the clinic go smoothly.

New cheer coach, Kalea Wilson, also put lot of planning into this event. She has been working hard this season to make the cheer team the best they can be. “The Warrior Cheer Clinic was a great success this year for the Waldorf Cheer Program. We had a total of 28 girls sign up and participate with us. They all did so well and loved cheering with our University Cheerleaders out on the field, which brought so many smiles to so many faces. We are looking forward to hosting more clinics in the future as it was a lot of fun as well as a great bonding and learning experience for the future cheerleaders within our community,” said Coach Wilson

Some girls were veterans to the clinic, and were ready and prepared for the big performance. They helped the younger girls get their nerves out and made sure everyone had a lot of fun. The Waldorf cheer team will have another clinic during basketball season as well. They hope it will be just as, if not more, successful.
