The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” at Waldorf College
By Abbie Wells
“It’s just a jump to the left and then a step to the right.” That step is a step in a new direction for the Waldorf theatre department this Halloween.
The Waldorf College Theatre Department will be presenting two showings of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on October 30, 2015; one at 8:00 p.m. and one at midnight in Smith Theatre. Smith Theatre is located in Voss Hall on the Waldorf College campus. General admission will be $10 per person and $3 for a prop package for the show.
The showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will take the place of the annual haunted house put on by Alpha Psi Omega (APO), the theater honor society. Senior Philip Detrick believes it will be a nice change for the department. “The set up and tear down of the haunted house took valuable time,” Detrick said. That time will now be used in the upcoming Shakespeare show, “The Tempest.”
All are welcome to attend though it is recommended children under the age of 13 be accompanied by an adult.
The show will be directed by Dr. Robert E. AuFrance, Director of Waldorf Theatre, and various members of APO will assist in the running of the production. “It was time for a change,” said AuFrance.
Waldorf students and community members alike are invited to audition for a number of roles in the production.
The movie will be shown on the projector in the theatre while the costumed actors portray the musical numbers in front of the screen.
Sophmore Caitlyn Rusk said, “I’m looking forward to it! It should be a fun experience!”
This is a very new take on Halloween this year for most of the theatre department. Detrick feels it will be an adventure and one that will bring many new people in to see the department.
“Also,” Detrick said, “I think it will just be way more fun.”
