Ten Waldorf University students got their brushes wet as they followed along with a Creative Spirits Instructor painting. March 18 Waldorf’s Social Warriors Activities Team (S.W.A.T.) coordinated with Creative Spirits for students to come down to Gatsby’s to learn to paint a fall scene on canvas.

Creative Spirits has a location in Forest City, Iowa. The company was founded in 2012 in Spirit Lake, Iowa and they opened their first studio two months later. They have locations in Tipton, Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Okoboji and Ames, Iowa. They offer as many reasons to paint as you can think of.

S.W.A.T. had a signup sheet up for a week and a half allowing students to pay $5. There were student’s from the Waldorf Love Your Melon Crew as well as some Waldorf Staff.

“We moved to Forest City because of the college,” said Creative Spirits Studio Manager Jill Holland. Creative Spirits seemed to have a lot of college students interested in their event parties. Setting a studio up closer to college students and in a vibrant town will cater to creative people.

Katie Wilcox, S.W.A.T. team meber, is one of the creative people that helped plan the event and painted that night.

“I thought it was an inexpensive, fun activity for college students,” said Wilcox. “I had wanted to paint at one of these for a while.”

“S.W.A.T. plans on bringing Creative Spirits back to Waldorf University campus for another event,” said S.W.A.T. Advisor Amanda Aberle.
