No. 14 Wisconsin-Oshkosh slips past Waldorf in overtime

ALBERT LEA, Minnesota – University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished the weekend with a split after slipping past the Waldorf University hockey team with a 3-2 overtime win during Saturday’s Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL) matchup.
Tanner Good led the Titans (4-5, 3-3) to victory after scoring the game-winning goal 58 seconds into the overtime period. Wisconsin-Oshkosh entered the game ranked No. 14 in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division II Central Region poll. Jason Johnson and Andrew Schulenburg also contributed goals for the Titans.
The No. 8 Warriors (6-2, 3-1) received goals from junior Matthew Liggett and freshman Tyler Wilson.
In 60 minutes, 58 seconds of play, junior Dustin Stevens went against 38 shots and tallied 35 saves.
Eric Vela served as the Wisconsin-Oshkosh goalkeeper for the duration of the contest and rejected 45 of the 47 shots he faced.
The Warriors outshot the Titans by a 47-38 margin.
Liggett put Waldorf on the board during the second minute of the first period off passes from sophomores Ryan Veillet and Cameron Batchelor.
Five minutes into the second period, Johnson evened the score at 1-all after taking advantage of passes from Schulenburg and Cortland Maxfield. Wilson scored a five-hole goal assisted by senior Artem Savelyev to take a 2-1 lead nine minutes into the second period.
Waldorf held onto the lead until Schulenburg connected for an equalizer with only five seconds remaining in regulation. Brandon Beier and JT Smithback were credited with assists.
Good sealed the match with a game-winning goal assisted by Matt Edwards.
The Warriors continue their home stand when they host Augustana College (0-4) for next weekend’s non-conference series at Albert Lea City Arena. Waldorf is scheduled to square off with the Vikings on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 2 p.m.
