New Football Coach, Same Goal
By Austin Siegal
Waldorf football has experienced a management change when Will Finley replaced Josh Littrell for the 2020 season.
Former Head Coach Josh Littrell stepped down to become head coach and athletic director for San Antonio Warren High School in Texas.
Coach Finley has been appointed as the new head coach for the foreseeable future. He will be taking hold of a program that shined under Coach Finley’s defense last season.
The team finished with a 23rd national ranking and were also led by one of the top defenses in the NAIA. They were led by All-Conference and Conference Defensive Player of The Year Linebacker Marcel Lindner.
This will be Coach Finley’s first head coaching job.
Coach Finley’s coaching experience goes back to Benedictine College where he spent three years playing linebacker and after graduating, spent six years as the linebacker coach for them as well.
Coach Finley also spent the 2018 season as interim defensive coordinator for the college and led them to a national championship appearance and a top five national ranking.
Before playing and coaching at Benedictine College, he spent one season playing linebacker for Coffeyville Community College in his hometown of Coffeyville, Kansas.
He made his transition to Waldorf University last season.
“We are going in the same direction,” Coach Finley said. “Our goal is still to win a conference championship and get these guys their degrees.”
As a result of Coach Littrell’s departure, Coach Finley will have to make his first hire as head coach and seek a new offensive coordinator. One thing is for certain, the program’s future is bright under the new coach as the Will Finley era begins.
