Waldorf offensive guard Demetrius Martin earned the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Player of the Week award for his efforts last week. He has two prior Player of the Week awards, giving him three on the season.

He dropped a career-high 40 points on his Senior Day against the 22nd-ranked Mayville State.

The Warriors (10-16 overall, 7-6 NSAA) fell short against the Comets (20-4 overall, 10-2 NSAA) despite Martin’s stellar game.

Martin missed a potential game-winning shot, and Mayville took the win 77-75.

“We did not get the win against Mayville—which is my number-one goal every game—but I am appreciative of the love I have received from the conference this year,” said Martin, “It just makes me want to work that much harder.”

He scored at an efficient rate as well, shooting 17-for-25 from the field. The Comets struggled to find an answer for him all game long. Martin also gathered 4 rebounds and 2 steals all while playing the entire game.

“Demetrius was so fun to watch on Saturday. He could not be stopped no matter what Mayville tried to do with him,” said Waldorf fan, Chris Jones. “He was a huge piece of the comeback. He has been having a great year.”

Martin also helped Waldorf cruise to a victory over Presentation (3-25 overall, 0-13 NSAA) 90-50 on Friday.

He scored 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting to go along with 4 rebounds.

The blowout allowed Martin to save his legs. He only played 27 minutes (10 minutes below his average) and can be expected in a 40-point win.

“The Presentation game was good for us to get some things clicking, to gain confidence heading into playoffs in a couple weeks, ” said Martin, “We still have a lot to prove before this season is over.”

The Warriors play at Viterbo (13-13 overall, 7-6 NSAA) in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Friday, Feb. 21 to end the regular season. Waldorf looks to improve their conference tournament seeding.
