Fortnite: Battle Royale is a free video game booming more than its creators expected.

The game has often been described as a video game version of the hunger games, but for those experienced, they would describe it as very similar to a game called PUBG.

PUBG was growing in popularity, but on Super Bowl Sunday, Battle Royale hit a record of 3.4 million concurrent players. The servers crashed due to the amount of people playing, but the numbers show the game’s popularity. Battle Royale is available on PS4, XBOX One and PC where PUBG is only available on PC. Players enjoy the game because it is free and accessible.

Fortnite: Battle Royale has also blown-up on social media within a matter of days. Players post pictures on Snapchat of their screens when they win games with a simple “DUB” captioned on the screen. “Dub”, indicating they won the match.

Each game is time efficient and players can easily play hours on end without stopping. “It’s entertaining, and it’s fun to play when you can squad up with friends too,” said Jacob Tedesco.

With all of the rage about the new game, there are opposing opinions. Kirsten DeVary who is dating a frequent Fortnite player, Chasen Selsor, and she expressed her opinion on the game.

“I guess I found it to be more annoying that it’s all he wants to do anymore, and that it takes up a lot of his time,” DeVary said, “but I’m also not going to make his decisions for him.”

Tyra Brown, another girlfriend of a regular Fortnite player, explains how she feels towards the game.

“I have honestly never heard anyone scream so loud at the TV,” Brown said. “Most guys lack communication skills until they are playing a group video game and have to describe where they are.”

Although some girlfriends aren’t too fond of Fortnite: Battle Royale, some significant others have learned to love the game. Some couples actually play together as a team and enjoy the time they get to spend together.

Now, in my opinion, I hated the fact that my boyfriend played it in all his free time, but one day he let me play and try it out. After playing the game, I have a complete understanding for players that never want to stop. The game is fun, and it’s always something different each time. So for those who have negative feelings towards Fortnite: Battle Royale, I say, “don’t knock it ‘til you try it.”
