Waldorf cornerback Tyler Dennis earned North Star Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week last week for his recovered fumble touchdown on a Presentation College punt.

After a muffed snap, Dennis came around the edge of the shield and hopped on the ball in the end zone for Waldorf’s first score of the day en route to their 58-7 victory against the Saints.

Being a JuCo transfer from California, Dennis wanted to make an impact for his first Waldorf home game of his career and he did just that.

Making his Bolstorff Field debut, Dennis scored his first touchdown of his playing career.

“I have never scored a touchdown before, so to do that was a moment that I will never forget,” said Dennis. “I just wanted to help my team win, and I believe I did that by starting the game with a special teams touchdown.”

Along with playing on the punt return unit, Dennis also starts at cornerback for the Warriors.

“Tyler transferred in here for fall camp, and we did not know he would be this solid of a player,” said starting safety MaCoy Yeakel. “He knows the defense well for only playing with us for two months now. He does a great job for us.”

Before playing at Waldorf, he played at Carroll College in Montana. He also appeared on the hit Netflix show “Last Chance U” when featured player Dior Scott hurdled over him.

“My first ever TV show appearance was me getting jumped over, but I’ll still take being on the show,” laughed Dennis.

This was his first honor in the Waldorf uniform and the third of the season for the Warriors. Taylen Alexander and Wayne Parrish were the Week 1 NSAA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

The Warriors (2-1) look to Dakota State (1-2) as they prepare to travel to Madison, South Dakota for a game against the Trojans.
