BELLEVUE, Nebraska – Bellevue University beat out the Waldorf University men’s soccer team for the North Star Athletic Association regular-season title by taking a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

The Bruins (10-6-2, 4-0) entered the match with a half-game lead over the Warriors (11-5-1, 2-1-1) in the NSAA standings. Bellevue needed a win or a tie to secure the regular-season conference crown, while Waldorf needed a win to take the title.

Rob Smith and Finlay Bloodworth scored goals for Bellevue. Smith, Bloodworth, Scott Robson and Daniel Coupland each provided a shot on goal.

Senior Cristian Alvarez and junior Jean Bonnin each registered a pair of shots on target. Junior Riley Gibson, sophomore Cameron Saul, freshmen Jacob Harris and Athos Monteiro each delivered a shot on frame.

Sophomore Humberto Figueroa faced three shots and recorded one save.

Bellevue’s Ben Martin compiled an eight-save shutout.

The Warriors outshot the Bruins by a 21-9 margin.

Waldorf and Bellevue remained scoreless at halftime. The Bruins received their first goal during the 52nd minute. Scott Robson took a free kick five yards off the right corner. Bloodworth was able to capitalize off Robson’s pass and head the ball low for the score.

Bellevue added an insurance goal from Smith during the 73rd minute after Edgar Guzman set him up for a give and go.

Waldorf created several scoring opportunities during the second half, but came up empty as a result of Martin’s goalkeeping and Bellevue’s defense.

The Warriors open the NSAA Tournament next week on a date to be determined by the conference. Waldorf’s opponent, along with the location and the start time of the match, have not yet been released.
