Art Gallery- Marvelle Blome
By Maggie Kretzmann
Every year local and national artists alike get the opportunity to showcase their pieces in the art gallery located in Waldorf University’s Campus Information Center.
Featured in the art gallery right now is Marvella Blome and her watercolor pieces, which range in subjects. “What’s really interesting about Marvella’s work is her technique and her skill she puts into each piece,” professor Dean Swenson said. Blome is also Waldorf University’s art gallery director and main art instructor.
When Blome was a child she loved art, and received her degree in Commercial Art from Hawkeye Community College located in Waterloo. For a while she designed rings at Jostens, but was called back to Hawkeye Community College for teaching. Blome then traveled back to Iowa and started a family, and during this time she worked as a graphic designer at the Forest City Summit here in Forest City as well as taught classes at Waldorf University in the Communications Department. She finally decided to begin her artist career and left graphic design and opened up an art studio near Thompson, Iowa. “My favorite piece was the violin on a piece of sheet music,” junior Jenni Martin said, “I related a lot to it and also the ballerina one. All of the watercolors are amazing, and I liked the variety of her pieces.” If you would like to learn more about Marvella Blome’s watercolor artwork, she will be having a artist reception September 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the art gallery in the Campus Information Center. Her gallery is on display until October 6.
