The Waldorf University Football Team has made history this season. The Warriors are 6-1 for the first time since the school transitioned to a 4 year back in 2000.
The Warriors accomplished this feat against the incredibly tough Mayville State Comets at Bolstorff Field.
The Warriors started out hot with the opening kickoff, as Malik Adams out of Cedar Rapids Iowa flew down on the play and ripped the ball from the comets to give the Warriors the ball deep in Comet territory.
Just two plays later, the Warriors struck first as quarterback Jordan Cooper threw a 15 yard dime to Zach Morel to put the Warriors up a score just 65 seconds into the contest.
On the next Waldorf possession following a Mayville 3 and out, The Warriors found the endzone on a 4 yard Taye Buchanan rushing touchdown to put the Warriors up two scores.
The game became very tight however at the halfway mark as Waldorf suffered 3 very bad turnovers to set the comets up deep in Warrior territory. The Comets only found the endzone one of the three times and caused a 14-7 halftime score.
The Warriors came out of halftime with a vengeance as Jatoviay Hill took the opening carry of the second half 70 yards to the Mayville 9 yardline. The Warriors would punch it in with Taye Buchanan’s second touchdown of the day.
Over the rest of the game, the Warriors took a one handed lead after Jordan Cooper put the final exclamation point of the game from 38 yards out to bring the final score to 39-19.
“It was a great win, and I think that we are peaking at just the right time for our toughest part of the schedule with Dickinson and Valley coming up.” says Slater Gifford (kicker).
The Warrior defense held the Comets offense to just 150 yards passing and just a 28 percent completion percentage.
The Warriors are now in second place in the conference standings and will face a very tough nationally ranked opponent in 23 ranked Valley City State next weekend right back at Bolstorff Field.
