Volleyballs unique season ends in playoff bid

Due to the never before seen circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic, the Waldorf University volleyball season was split in half with the first half played in the fall and the second half in the spring semester.

The Waldorf women improved after the Christmas break hiatus, beating a few of their conference foes such as Presentation College, and also Valley City State University.

The warriors had to deal with the loss of senior Kathleen Baldwin who graduated a semester early and was not available for the second half of the season.

Due to the new circumstances, the conference allowed all 8 teams to make it to the conference tournament. Waldorf was notified that it would have the tough task of playing the first place team in the conference, Bellevue University, in the first round of the tournament. 

“It’s gonna be a challenging match, but we have been working hard for the past two months leading up to this point and we are excited that we are getting the opportunity to play,” said Aby Wood, sophomore team captain.

Leading the team in blocks, the Warriors will be hoping for Aby Wood to step up and take control to help the Warriors pull off the upset. The Warriors will also look to Kinsey Kidd to lead the way since she is the current team leader in kills with 183 in the season so far.

This will be the second season in a row the Warriors have made it to the conference tournament. Last season, the Warriors earned the 6th seed and lost to Bellevue University in the opening round in 3 straight sets.
