Devil on My Mind

Spring: the time for finals, time for plays and time to present your senior capstone. For senior theatre major Jonathan Quigley, all three were wrapped into one.
This past fall Quigley (writer/director/lyricist) wrote a play with intermittent musical performances, after his best friend of many years passed away.
“I actually wrote this play within the span of a day. It was difficult writing certain parts of this play since it hits close to home,” said Quigley, “but once I sat down and started writing and got into it, it came naturally. I knew what I wanted to write. After I finished writing it, I went back and fixed the transitions so the songs would flow nicely between scenes.”
According to the Devil on My Mind event page on Facebook, this show “…is a story about a young man who battles with himself.” The event page also states a warning label, “WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT 18+” due to strong language and talk of mental health and suicide.
Quigley wants the audience to take away one lesson from the play. “The ending monologue exemplifies what I’m going for. I people to be there for each other. Even though it’s not okay right now, it will be.”
Devil on My Mind‘s original debut date was supposed to be April 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Smith Theatre at Waldorf University, but was postponed due to illness. The show will now debut in the Smith Theatre May 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. The show is free to all, and will be live streamed.
