Warriors Bake to Stop Hunger

Alpha Chi Honor Society, Honors College students and Amnesty International hosted its annual Stop Hunger Bake Sale to raise money for the Stop Hunger food packaging event.
On Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the groups set up the table filled with baked goods such as cookies, cupcakes, puppy chow and caramel apples. With the Atrium being very crowded that day, the Bake Sale generated a lot of profit.
“With every 30 cents, you can pay for a meal at the Stop Hunger food packaging event,” Dr. Suzanne Falck-Yi, the faculty advisor of the groups, said. This event was planned a week before the food packaging event. Student members were encouraged to prepare the event, bake and sell baked goods during the event.
“I love this annual event because it brings together students, faculty, staff and the community in a joint, hands-on activity that makes us all pause and think about those who are hungry and need our help,” Dr. Falck-Yi said.
The Bake Sale is a free will donation, in which buyers can pay as much as they are willing to and take as many baked goods as they want. Some people decided not to take a lot baked goods but put a lot of money in the bowl. It cheered up the staff members at the table, and at the end of the day, the Bake Sale raised $238.98. With this amount of money, 797 meals will be purchased to help stop hunger around the world.
Dina Selviana, a freshman student who helped at the table, was glad to participate at both the Stop Hunger food packaging and the bake sale. “Some students did not even sign up to sell for the bake sale because the spots were occupied. However, it did not stop them from helping,” she said, noticing how students tried to get involved to raise awareness of hunger around the world.
This year marked the 11th year of the Stop Hunger food-packaging event at Waldorf University. All the meals will be sent to help people in Tanzania.
