Coaches Vs. Cancer

Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, Waldorf will be hosting a Coaches vs. Cancer game during the varsity men and women’s basketball games. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game following. They will be playing Viterbo University.
Starting at 5 p.m. there will be a Chili Supper with the cost being $6. The proceeds will go towards the Coaches vs. Cancer. During halftime of the women’s game there will be a Dollar Donation Shootout, where the contestants donate a dollar for every shot they make.
Kalea Wilson, head cheer coach and game day promotions coordinator, has put in a lot of time planning this event and promoting it. Tuesday, Feb. 14, she went on to the local radio station, KIOW, to promote the event.
“I think this event is for a great cause, and [it] is a great way to get the students involved,” said Wilson. “I am excited to see how many people come out and help us raise money for the cause. This is a great fundraiser, because it is fun and easy for anyone to be a part of.”
Wilson has been working hard to recruit students and staff to be a part of the halftime game in hopes of having a big turnout. This game will also help get a bigger crowd at the basketball games to support the Warriors as they round out their season.
Sophomore Madison Stenerson is excited about the game. “I think this is a great cause that everyone believes in,” said Stenerson. “I think it is a great and fun way to bring the community together. And [it’s a great way to] raise money for an amazing cause.”
Coaches vs. Cancer is a partnership of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches; they are working together with teams across the country to raise money and find a cure.
