FOREST CITY – The Waldorf University women’s soccer team battled to a scoreless tie during Saturday’s North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) matchup with Presentation College.
“The girls played their hearts out,” Waldorf coach Michael Wilson said. “I’m really happy with the team’s commitment and teamwork.”
Senior Brittney Thornton led the Warriors (3-7-1, 0-0-1) with five shots. Junior Chelsea Delgado and senior Mia Crail each provided three shots, senior Charlotte Madrid contributed two shots and freshman Kiarra Houston added a shot.
Delgado and Crail each registered two shots on goal, while Thornton also produced a shot on target.
Bobbye Pendleton fired four shots on frame for the Saints (7-3-2, 0-0-1). Brittney Cusick took three shots on goal while Amanda Ochoa and Sarah Hamlin each delivered a shot on target.
The Saints finished the match with a 23-15 shot advantage over the Warriors.
Junior Hanna DeVries served as the Warrior goalkeeper for the duration of the match, which included two overtime periods. The Albert Lea, Minnesota native put together a nine-save shutout during 110 minutes in goal. DeVries has recorded three shutouts this season, which ties for third among Waldorf single-season and career leaders.
“It’s great that we kept another clean sheet,” Wilson said.
Presentation’s Allison Johnston racked up 110 minutes as goalkeeper and put together a shutout after saving each of the five shots she faced.
Thornton, Crail, Madrid, Laura Moore and Jocelyn Gaughrun were recognized on Senior Night for their contributions to the Warrior program.
“Overall, it was a great performance and one we can continue to develop,” Wilson said.
The Warriors square off with Grace University (0-11) next Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup in Omaha, Nebraska.
