The Man Who Came to Dinner is the first production of the year. It is an American classic written in 1939. It is a comedy centering on a famous celebrity who, during a publicity tour, slips on the ice and has to stay with a family for one month. He turns the family’s life upside down.

“I’m looking forward to the first new crop of freshman and seeing them start their journey. It’s nice to have new blood to change the dynamic, and it’s nice to start a new season, of course,” Dr. Bob AuFrance says. AuFrance adds, “the audience can expect to have a good time and laugh. It’s a big show with 23 cast members. There are new faces and familiar ones, great roles. It comes down to the audience being entertained. I hope people come and see the show. I hope freshman who aren’t used to theatre would take this as an opportunity to see the theatre department.”

Senior Abbie Wells plays Maggie Cutler, Secretary to Mr. Sheridan Whiteside, a famous radio man.

Wells adds, “there’s around 10 new theater students this year. I think it’s a really good group. I’m looking forward to a strong and fun season. The audience can expect to see humor, craziness and a little bit of love. Come see the show; it’s going to be bomb.”

The Man Who Came to Dinner begins Sept. 21-24 at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets are available at the door.
