Jimmies oust Warriors

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Waldorf College women’s soccer team ended the season with a 6-0 loss to the University of Jamestown during Thursday’s North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Tournament quarterfinal.
Monica Noria led the Jimmies (9-8-1) with two goals. Emma Marquardsen, Sophie Bales, Briana De Stefano and Jaelyn Lowery also notched goals for Jamestown.
The Jimmies outshot the Warriors (3-15) by a 14-6 margin and held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Waldorf received shots on goal from seniors Ashley Carmichael, Stephanie Frias, juniors Brittney Thornton, Mia Crail and sophomore Leah Eckenrode.
Junior goalkeeper Charlotte Madrid collected five saves for the Warriors. Madrid finished the season with 85 saves while facing 108 shots.
Jamestown’s Lauren Sayler recorded her fourth shutout of the season, finishing with five saves. Sayler has totaled 82 saves on the season with 102 shots fired in her direction.
Lowery put the Jimmies on the scoreboard as she added a goal during the sixth minute with Josselin Cosio and Nicole Bologna contributing on the assists. It was only two minutes later when Bales scored to push Jamestown to a two-goal advantage.
Noria connected for her first goal of the day during the 35th minute to put the Jimmies up 3-0. Forty minutes into the first half, De Stefano delivered Jamestown’s fourth goal of the first half.
Marquardsen was quick to help the Jimmies continue to pull away as she found the back of the net only nine seconds into the second half.
Jamestown’s final goal came during the 59th minute as Marquardsen set up Noria for her second goal of the day. Noria leads the Jimmies in scoring with 25 points behind team-highs of 10 goals and five assists.
In the previous match occurring between the two teams this season, the Jimmies captured a 1-0 victory over the Warriors on Oct. 24 Jamestown.
The loss ended the careers of Cassidy Ogden, Victoria Arenas, Laura Moore, Carmichael and Frias, who have played significant roles as team leaders this season.
With 14 players returning next year, Waldorf looks to build on the lessons learned this season while striving for further success in its second season in the NSAA.
