UW-Oshkosh completes sweep over Waldorf

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Waldorf College hockey team fell short in a 3-1 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Saturday’s Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL) contest.
The Titans (6-1, 2-0) completed the season sweep over the Warriors (4-6, 2-2) with the victory.
Jacob Bales scored Waldorf’s lone goal. The senior forward from Lee’s Summit, Mo. capitalized off a pass from senior Jake Taylor during the third period.
Junior goalkeeper Nicholas Carroll provided 20 saves for the Warriors, spending the first 40 minutes between the pipes. Sophomore Ronald Paulson also saw time in goal and finished with 14 saves.
The Warriors outshot the Titans for the second time in the series by a 46-37 margin.
UW-Oshkosh’s Cortland Maxwell broke open the game, scoring unassisted five minutes into the second period. The Titans claimed a 2-0 advantage as Jason Johnson connected off a pass from Adam Stanton in the 19th minute of the second period.
Bales’ goal came with less than five minutes to remaining in the third period to cut deficit lead to one. UW-Oshkosh received an empty-net goal from Anthony Elsen in the closing seconds of the match.
The Warriors continue the season next weekend, hosting North Dakota State University in a two-game series at Albert Lea, Minn. Waldorf swept the Bison by scores of 4-2 and 5-1 in the first two matches of the season. Game times are set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday.
