Library to host Long Night Against Procrastination

On Thursday, Nov. 12, the Waldorf Luise V. Hanson Library will be open until 2 a.m. as part of its annual Long Night Against Procrastination.
The main focus of the night, which is a collaborative effort between the library and the writing center, is to give students a chance catch up on assignments and receive help studying. “We’re providing encouragement to get ahead for finals and catch up on work,” said Library Director Derrick Burton.
Door prizes, food and tutors will be available to Waldorf students during the event, which will be held right before Thanksgiving break. “It will be the same as last year, with snacks such as pizza rolls and popcorn,” Burton said.
The Long Night Against Procrastination started in Germany, where writing centers and libraries are open all night and students are encouraged to stay late. It happened for the first time at Waldorf two years ago when former Library Director Liz Kiscadin joined forces with Dr. LeAnn Nash and the writing center. The event has continued to grow ever since.
According to Burton, last year hosted the biggest turn out since the event began, with about 200 students coming in and out of the library throughout the night. “We saw a lot of different representation throughout the student body,” said Burton.
In an effort to provide a relaxed and welcoming setting, there will also be a coloring table and story time. The goal is to take some stress off of students while aiding them in catching up on assignments as well as final exam preparations.
“Everybody is welcome,” Burton said.
