This week’s spotlight athlete comes from the hockey side of things. Junior, Alex Fleming was chosen as this week’s Warrior Spotlight Athlete after having a great weekend for the Warriors versus Robert Morris.

Fleming, from Orion, Illinois had 3 points in the 7-0 victory in the Saturday nightcap. Fleming scored one goal in the Saturday win as well as adding two more assists to take third on the Warriors in scoring list for the season. Fleming now has 25 points for the Warriors on the year and is a big piece to the Warrior success on the ice.

The junior took over the game early versus seventh ranked Robert Morris two weeks ago in Albert Lea. The Warriors jumped on the Eagles quick where Fleming provided an assist. The third goal of the game was credited to Fleming and soon after he picked up his third point and leading the Warriors to a split with Robert Morris. Fleming was held scoreless in the two losses at home this past weekend against third ranked Lindenwood on senior weekend. The Warriors were defeated by scores of 6-2 (Saturday) and 3-1 in Sunday’s contest.

The Warriors travel to Marquette, Michigan to play in the NCHL Conference Tournament this coming weekend. Fleming and the Warriors open Tournament play as the third seed with a record of 19 wins and 13 losses and will play (5-17) sixth seeded St. Mary’s University on Friday February 12 at 1:00 p.m. EST and 12 p.m. CST. With a victory against St. Mary’s the Warriors would meet up with Robert Morris in the semi-final on Saturday at 7 p.m. EST. The Warriors come into this year’s tournament as the defending tournament champs winning the title at home last year.
