The Social Warriors Activities Team (S.W.A.T.) at Waldorf College host Midterm Munchies every spring semester. This year’s Midterm Munchies were held on February 22 and 23, 2016.

This event has been a way for S.W.A.T. to offer a break as students are studying for midterms. In years past there has been a candy bar and slushies’. Any snack type food you can think of, S.W.A.T. has probably covered it. This year the team provided a free essential oil roll on tube for students to make. The company DoTERRA came and offered three types of bottles students could choose from to fill. There was an essential oil that helped relieve stress, one that helped provide confidence and one that aided in sore muscles. Each one was made from natural oils, such as peppermint and lavender and then mixed with coconut oil. Students got to take home their roll on bottles of essential oils and learn more about how essential oils can help.

The second day of Midterm Munchies was Pizza and Boneless Wings from GodFathers Pizza right here in Forest City. S.W.A.T. Purchased 11 large pizzas and 100 wings and requested the pizzas be cut into squares. These options were handed to the students free of charge in the Waldorf Atrium on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 from 11 a.m. till the food ran out.

These services were offered for the students as a break from studying for midterms and to get a little snack in.

“Members of S.W.A.T. work hard to not repeat past options when it comes to midterm munchies,  which is why we went big and chose pizza and wings,” said Shaye Sutherland, S.W.A.T. President.

The pizza and wings went quickly and were gone within the first 30 minutes.

KZOW, the Waldorf College’s student run radio station had their table set up, promoting the event over the radio airwaves all morning. The station interviewed current S.W.A.T. members about the event and pulled in some hungry college students to get free food.

“I am mad,” said Spencer Johnson, member of KZOW, “I won’t be around the atrium much today to get free pizza and wings. You guys should do this more often.”

With student’s stomachs full and headed off to classes, S.W.A.T. spent time cleaning up their event and evaluating what they would have done differently.

“The food went very quickly,” said Kristen Wilke, fellow member of S.W.A.T., “so next time we would purchase more.”

S.W.A.T. also sponsors Destress Days around finals which are similar to Midterm Munchies, only more of a focus on distressing. They offer a variety of activities during the school year for Waldorf Students. Stay tuned to their Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on SW.A.T. events.
