Briar Cliff Edges Over the Warriors
Cassidy Warson
In a dominant game of having possession of the ball, the Warriors fell short in a 2-1 loss to the Briar Cliff Chargers on Saturday, Sept. 16.
The first quarter was all about playing defense for both teams as only five shots were taken at the Charger’s goal by the Warriors. On the flip side, the Chargers only had three tries at the Warriors. Out of the three shots that the Chargers took, only one of those was saved by the Warrior’s goalie, while all five shots by Waldorf were saved in the Charger’s goal.
At half time, the teams came up with ways to make their offense come alive as they were the story in the second half. With just about four-and-a-half minutes into the half, the Chargers made the first move against the Warrior’s goal as three shots were taken. All three of those shots were blocked. At the 31:42 time in the second half, it was Briar Cliff’s #8, Jake Dube, to put the first score of the game on the scoreboard. Dube sneaks the ball into the Warriors goal on a corner kick pass from teammate Rodrigo Oliveira to take the 1-0 lead.
Within the next two-and-a-half minutes, at the time of 26:28, the Warriors make a score of their own to tie the game. #7 Jean Bonnin, makes the score after getting the ball passed to him from teammate Osman Toro.
Not too long after the score, the Warriors couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to score their second goal as #8, Cameron Saul missed on a penalty kick.
At 13:28, Waldorf’s Bruno Barbosa was all alone with two defenders chasing him as he got closer to the Charger’s goal and missed on the attempt. At 7:31, Prichard Sibanda of the Chargers, scored on the Warrior’s goal to make it a 2-1 lead.
As time started to diminish on the clock, the Warriors couldn’t take advantage of their last final chance to take the lead as Saul again missed another penalty kick. The Warriors had plenty of opportunities to score in the game, they just couldn’t get the ball into the goal.
Next up for the Warriors, they will take on Friends University at home on Friday, Sept. 22.
