8 Things to Do on Campus When Bored

By: Kaitlin Rodriguez

Ever get bored on the weekends?

Well, spring time is just around the corner, so here are few fun activities that can help break that boredom.

Number 1: Love the outdoors? Pilot Knob State Park is right around the corner. The state park includes camping, trails, lakes, and a recreational area. It would be the perfect place to take a nature hike with a few of your friends!

Number 2: On Waldorf’s campus, organizations such as the Student Warrior Activities Team (SWAT) plan events on and off campus multiple times a month. Some examples are free bowling at the Forest City Super Bowl, free roller skating in Mason City, the annual SEAL awards, and many more!

Number 3: Along with events on campus, the Waldorf University Theatre Department produces four mainstage shows a year–three in the Smith Theatre and one in the new Boman Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $2 for Waldorf students and can be purchased at the box office across from the Warrior Crossing.

Number 4: Music concerts! The Waldorf Wind Symphony, Waldorf Choir, and Schola Cantorum put on about 4 concerts a year–most notably: “Christmas With Waldorf.” The groups perform at convocation in the beginning of each school year. Their concerts are now held in the Boman Fine Arts Center.

Number 5: The Forest Theatre is right down the street from campus, and shows new movies for low prices! Tickets cost $4, but Waldorf students can get a FREE movie ticket each month (sponsored by SWAT) from Hallie Erdahl in the Campus Information Center (CIC).

Number 6: Want something cool and creamy after a movie at The Forest Theatre? Or how about a Four Cheese Grilled Sandwich? Scoopy Doo’s is a block away from The Forest Theatre on North Clark street and serves ice cream, sandwiches, soup, burgers, salads, wraps, and has fantastic customer service.

Number 7: Strike, you’re out! Spring is baseball and softball season here at Waldorf. The games take place behind the Forest City High School and Middle School. For games, check out the sports schedule at waldorfwarriors.com.

Number 8: Feeling hot? The YMCA located behind the Hanson Field House is home to a pool, hot tub, and sauna! Remember to pack your bathing suit!
